Title Manager, Tax Services
Position Overview  
Reporting to the Director, Financial Development and Tax Services this position is responsible to provide leadership in the provision of a full range of services in tax, including planning and compliance.
Responsibilities    
  • Provide leadership in the provision of a full range of services in tax, including planning and compliance. 
  • Oversee the tax compliance process, including the review of complex tax returns, to meet requirements of federal and provincial tax legislation; liaise with business units to obtain required information and provide advice related to GST, HST and PST matters to ensure adherence to relevant legislation; manage the transfer pricing process.
  • Manage the overall preparation and review of quarterly and annual income tax provisions and financial statement disclosures to meet financial reporting and regulatory reporting obligations; manage the smooth transition to IFRS as it pertains to taxes.
  • Maintain effective controls within the tax area to meet Canadian Securities Administrators’ compliance certification requirements; ensure documentation is in place; manage tax risks and ensure filings do not contain misrepresentations or omissions of material facts.
  • Provide leadership in the development of tax audit defence strategies and negotiations arising from federal and provincial audits; establish and maintain effective working relationships with auditors and ensure the provision of information is executed in a timely, professional and strategic manner.
  • Provide leadership and direction to staff utilizing effective management techniques; hire staff, coordinate and delegate work assignments to meet operational demands and stakeholder needs, set performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews.   
  • Research tax issues and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current tax legislation and accounting rules; present tax strategies and provide guidance and advice on tax implications of tax law changes and new accounting pronouncements.
  • Participate in due diligence of corporate acquisitions and reorganizations.
Requirements  
Education and Experience: 
  • Chartered Accountant designation
  • Completion of the CICA “In Depth” tax course
  • Minimum of 8 years tax experience in public practice (or within the tax group of a large corporation) including 3 years’ experience in a leadership capacity. 
  • Experience in a regulated environment would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of Canadian GAAP and IFRS as it relates to taxes
